Frequently asked Questions on Travel Insurance for over 75s
How much does Over 75s Travel Insurance cost?
Several different factors are taken into account when calculating your insurance premium. Your age and any pre-existing medical conditions you have will affect the price. So will the country you are going to and how long you plan to be there. In addition, the premium will include any extras that you add to your policy.
How can over 75s get cheaper Travel Insurance?
Travel Insurance costs are based on various factors, including age, destination, length of trip, and medical history. Some countries, like the USA, have notoriously expensive healthcare systems, and therefore the Travel Insurance policies for these countries are higher. If you would like to reduce the cost of your Over 75s Travel Insurance, consider going to a cheaper country or shortening the length of your trip. You could also consider doubling your excess to reduce the policy premium.
If you’re considering taking out a cheap Travel Insurance policy, it’s important to look at what is covered and what is not. If you take out the cheapest policy possible and then realise it only covers your valuables up to £50, it won’t be worth much if you lose any of your gadgets.
Does the cost of Travel Insurance increase at age 75?
Any Travel Insurance policy’s cost is based on various factors, including age. This is because as we get older, the likelihood of needing to claim on insurance increases — therefore making the cost higher. This is true of any Travel Insurance provider.
Do over 75s need Travel Insurance?
Yes, people over 75 should take out Travel Insurance. The UK Government recommends that anyone who leaves the country take out the required type of Travel Insurance. Being over 75 increases the risk of a medical emergency when abroad, so it’s important to have cover for any unexpected medical bills.
Do I need Travel Insurance for Over 75s if I have a GHIC?
Yes, you still need Travel Insurance, even if you have a GHIC. The UK Government recommends that everyone takes out Travel Insurance before leaving the country.
It’s important to note that while the GHIC may cover you for any unexpected medical costs, such as emergency treatment and visits to A&E or treatment for long-term or pre-existing medical conditions, it does not cover anything outside of that. For example, it will not cover the cost of transport to or from the hospital, or anything outside of medical emergencies, such as lost luggage or cancelled accommodation.
The GHIC is only valid within Europe, so if you are travelling further afield, it will not help with medical costs.
