Tips for travelling with an aneurysm
Here are some tips for travelling with an aneurysm
- Avoiding high altitudes and extreme temperatures is a good idea when choosing your destination. Ask your doctor for advice on your limitations, and consider the standard of healthcare in the country you’re travelling to.
- Move around when flying. By taking a walk on the plane, especially on long flights, you reduce your risk of getting a clot. Making regular movements gets the blood moving. Flight socks may also be useful too.
- Avoid alcohol on your journey. It’s important to drink plenty of water, especially when flying. Air travel can be dehydrating and drinking alcohol can add to this. Minimise your intake of salty foods too – as they can also have a similar effect on your hydration.
- Bring enough medication. Make sure you have the medication you need for the duration of your trip and a little extra too. Having extra for emergencies or delays keeps you in control.
- You know the warning signs, so listen to your own body.
