What our Customers Say

Frequently Asked Questions about Coronavirus Travel Insurance

Who is eligible for COVID Cover under our policy?

To be eligible for COVID Cover, you must either be up to date with Coronavirus vaccinations as recommended by the UK NHS or have medical evidence proving that you were medically unable to receive the vaccinations.

What are the "recommended" Coronavirus vaccinations?

The recommended vaccinations for COVID Cover are those applicable to individuals falling within the NHS vulnerable group, specifically those individuals who have been invited by the NHS to receive booster shots. Currently, this includes:

  • Residents in care homes for older adults
  • All adults aged 65 years and over
  • People aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group (as defined in the UKHSA Green Book on Immunisation)
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • People aged 12 to 64 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression (as defined in the UKHSA Green Book)
  • People aged 16 to 64 years who are carers (as defined in the UKHSA Green Book), and staff working in care homes for older adults.

What if you’ve only had 1 or 2 doses of the vaccine?

If you have only received 1 or 2 doses of the vaccine, but the NHS recommend and invite you to have a booster, you will need to ensure you receive the recommended booster vaccinations to maintain COVID Cover eligibility.

How can you verify your eligibility for COVID Cover?

Eligibility for COVID Cover is contingent on receiving the recommended booster shots if you fall within the “recommended vaccinations” criteria as defined by the UK NHS. If you are invited by the NHS to receive booster shots, make sure to get them in a timely manner.

What should you do if you’re unsure about your vaccination status or eligibility?

If you are uncertain about your vaccination status or eligibility, we recommend consulting with your GP or referring to the NHS website for guidance. It’s crucial to clarify your status to avoid any potential cover issues.

If you contract Coronavirus before you go on holiday, are you covered to cancel your holiday?

Yes, on AllClear Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum policies. If you become unfit to travel, provided you have booked your trip and bought your Travel Insurance policy prior to contracting the illness, you are able to submit a cancellation claim for consideration if you have Coronavirus within 14 days of your trip (provided you have chosen a policy that included cancellation cover).

If you are quarantined before your departure due to Coronavirus and cannot go on holiday, are you covered to cancel your trip?

Yes, with AllClear branded policies you’ll be covered if you need to quarantine on the orders of a treating medical practitioner due to Coronavirus, suspected Coronavirus or exposure to someone who has been diagnosed with Coronavirus.

What if you catch Covid-19 while on holiday?

Your travel insurance would cover your medical treatment costs as long as you were not travelling against regulatory or medical advice. This includes cover for repatriation to the UK if medically necessary. If you are unable to return to the UK within the dates on your insurance due to Covid-19 treatment the policy would automatically extend for up to 30 days.

What if you need to cut short your trip because a close relative passes away from Covid-19?

This is covered as standard as long as they were not already in hospital before you left for your holiday.
