Spring is a beautiful time to travel and see the world. Plenty of unique destinations are warming up, and some places which are too hot to enjoy at the height of summer are much more comfortable. Plus, there are loads of spring festivals and events taking place around the world.
We’ve put together 6 of our favourite places you can visit this spring.
Tokyo, Japan
If a trip to Japan has always been on your to-do list, make sure you visit in spring. In addition to all the beautiful buildings and history, spring also sees Japan awash with cherry blossoms, or sakura. Grab a bento box and head to a local park to admire the beautiful flowers, a practice known locally as hanami. While the cherry trees blossom all over Japan, Shinjuku Gyoen in Tokyo is a great place to take in the aromas.
Tangier, Morocco
For a short-haul taste of the exotic, head to Tangier in Morocco. This city on the coast of north east Africa is warm in spring, making it more comfortable than a visit in summer. Enjoy spring blooms as you stroll the bazaars and the Dar el Makhzen, formally a Sultan’s palace, now a museum of Moroccan artefacts.
Crete, Greece
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and has a unique culture and history, making it a popular choice with holidaymakers. By visiting this fantastic island in spring, you can avoid the crowds and the extreme summer heat. Not to mention that holidays are cheaper in the spring, saving you money on this amazing trip. There are plenty of hikes and walks to enjoy, so you can enjoy the incredible views while you stretch your legs.
Cartagena, Colombia
Spring is one of the driest and warmest times to visit this oceanfront colonial-era hub in South America. Enjoy a great city break in Colombia, especially as you stroll the UNESCO-protected streets of Old Town. Stunning beaches are not far away, so you can relax in the sea or read a good book on the warm sand.
Amalfi Coast, Italy
There’s not really a wrong time to visit this picture-perfect region of Italy. Villages and hamlets dot the landscape, separated by olive groves and lemon trees, connected by winding coastal roads. Visiting in spring lets you avoid the crowds the region draws in summer, and as a bonus, the area is awash with flowers at this time of year. Jasmine and orange blossoms lend a wonderful scent to the already stunning views.
Glacier Bay, Alaska
If you don’t mind being a bit chilly, spring is a fantastic time to visit Alaska, especially for nature lovers. Glacier bay is a national park with over three million acres, and spring is the feeding season for the many whales visiting the area. Late April sees the arrival of the gray whales, which are soon joined by humpbacks, minkies and orcas. When it comes to whale spotting, this is the perfect combination of the right time and the right place.
